The Former Kogi West lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye has called for penalties following the supply of adulterated petrol across the country.

Dino said someone must resign over the controversy.

The petrol, with high methanol, has resulted in long queues in filling stations across the country as fuel scarcity bites hard.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, mentioned that the supply of petrol with methanol quantities above Nigeria’s specification found in the supply chain was responsible for scarcity and long queues at filling stations.

Melaye, on Thursday, took to his Twitter page querying the Standard Organisation of Nigeria and other quality control agencies in place for failing to do their jobs.

According to him, it’s only God that’s protecting Nigerians.

In a post on his Twitter page, the former lawmaker wrote: “This country na wa!! You can imagine this corrupt fuel being aviation fuel which is possible.

“What happened to quality control, the standard organization of Nigeria and other quality assurance mechanisms in place.

“Na God dey protect us for this country. And nobody is resigning.”

Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) disclosed that four companies that brought adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into the country are MRS MT Bow Pioneer LITASCO Terminal, Antwerp-Belgium, Emadeb/Hyde/AY Maikifi/Brittania-U Consortium MT Tom Hilde; Oando MT Elka Apollon; Duke Oil MT Nord Gainer.

The Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, said the PMS was imported from Antwerp in Belgium with quality inspectors failing to detect the high level of methanol.

The contaminated petrol has damaged vehicles of Nigerians and caused long queues in Abuja, Lagos and some other states.
